Missing or severely damaged teeth are more than a cosmetic problem. They make the everyday actions of chewing, talking, and smiling more difficult. One way to fill the gap created by a missing tooth or teeth is with a fixed bridge. Made mostly of strong porcelain materials, a fixed bridge includes a replacement tooth (or teeth) supported by dental crowns on surrounding teeth.

Why Fixed Bridges

These appliances get their name because they are “fixed” into place, meaning they are unable to be removed at home- no taking it in and out! Bridges provide the following benefits:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth
  • Prevent teeth from shifting out of position
  • Closely resemble the color of healthy teeth
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Restore the proper function of your bite
  • Cemented into place (no taking it in and out)

What to Expect

A bridge typically requires two office visits. During the first appointment, the surrounding teeth are prepared to support the bridge. An impression is taken of your mouth and the results are sent to a trusted lab where your bridge will be created. You may be fitted with a temporary bridge until the next appointment.

During the second appointment, the bridge will be cemented into place. We carefully check the function and bite to ensure that it fits your mouth properly and comfortably. A few gentle adjustments may be made. Before you leave, our team will teach you how to properly maintain your bridge.
